Installation notes for the Fortran to API to Visual Basic Demo [this assumes that the base .ZIP file has been unzipped] 1. From Windows, run Setup.exe. This will create a new program group and put the demo in it, as well as install the various files needed in the \F2API2VB subdirectory. After installation, click on the F2API2VB icon to run the demo. 2. The following files are included: Visual Basic 3.0 files: ----------------------- testmsg.bas VB basic module testmsg.frm VB form testmsg.mak MAK file for VB project testmsg.txt ASCI text file of VB code Fortran 5.1 files: ------------------ compdll.bat batch file to compile the DLL linkdll.bat batch file to link the DLL testmsg.def DEFINITION file for fortran DLL testmsg.for Fortran source code for DLL Executables ----------- testmsg.exe VB executable that calls DLL testmsg.dll fortran DLL The setup program will install the .exe and related files in the subdirectory specified, and place the testmsg.dll and other VB DLLs in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. You should place all extra files associated with the VB and Fortran in this same subdirectory. 3. Once installed, click on the F2API2VB icon. The VB form should appear with a text box, a list box, and 3 command buttons. The first command button will call the DLL. The DLL will send a MessageBox message to let you know it is ready to go. The DLL then will place 9 messages, one every 4 seconds,in the text box and the list box. While the DLL is running, you can not perform other Windows functions (such as moving the form, clicking other items, etc.). When complete, the DLL will generate a second MessageBox to tell you it is complete. Then the VB program will generate its own MessageBox to let you know you are back in VB. The 'clear box' button will clear the text and list boxes after running the DLL. The OK button stops the VB program. 4. Read the F2API2VB.TXT file for more details on the files.
